In late 2006, Major League Gaming aquired Gamebattles and approached Anthem to completely redesign the site, build in a suite a of new features, streamline the arena launch system, and create a deck of web ads.

Approach
Gamebattles.com is a robust, user-driven website with rock-solid back-end features, attractive graphics,
and a system designed to take the word "dynamic" to the next level. When MLG came to Anthem to redesign the website, Gamebattles
was already gaining ground with its effective competitive ladder script and attractive custom site skins (designed by Anthem principal Shawn Borsky).
Major League Gaming(MLG) came to Anthem to build a redesign for Gamebattles that maintained its distinct brand, but also updated it and aligned it with Major League Gaming's
overall brand approach and other properties. Gamebattles utilizes a robust and expansive back-end content management system and a web structure based almost completely on constantly updating user-generated content.
The website revolves around a large community with an arena-based competition system, handling over 500,000 gamers and over 50 games across multiple countries. The arenas were designed to be deployed with a fast pace,
and with quick reaction to release dates and patch changes. The new deployment system includes a vast improvement in speed over the past system. The new system can launch an arena in hours, compared to the older system, which could take up to 2 weeks to launch an arena. Gamebattles' arena system also handles a large customized icon set developed specifically to create an attractive feel with a gamer flair to the website.
The website is also equipped with an updateable front-end DHTML rotator. The website is actually entirely built on HTML/CSS and Javascript/DHTML. No Flash. The website needed to load quickly and correctly on a large range of
screen sizes and computer types. Due to Gamebattles heavy user-centric approach, usability was a focus.
In that spirit, Anthem also produced a custom V-Bulletin forum skin to match Gamebattles new website and worked to intergrate the
community forums directly into the website's architecture. In addition, the website features a social networking/blog system called "my GB", a veritable
mySpace for the gsmer crowd. Which includes picture galleries, a blog, gamer tag integration, a built in messaging and alerts system and many robust social media and gamer-centric features.
